Mental Health Counselor's Profile

Dr. Chrisanna Mastorakis, Ph.D., LMHC
Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Many of the people I work with are thoughtful, capable, and successful in their personal or professional lives, yet internally they feel overwhelmed by anxiety, overthinking, perfectionism, self-doubt, or the pressure to constantly hold everything together.

You may find yourself stuck in recurring patterns: replaying conversations, worrying about the future, struggling to quiet your mind, or feeling as though no matter how much you accomplish, it never quite feels like enough. Others come to therapy during major life transitions such as marriage, parenthood, career changes, relationship challenges, grief, or periods of uncertainty that leave them feeling disconnected from themselves.

Clinical style

As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified RE-CBT Psychotherapist, and Assistant Professor of Psychology, I bring together over 13 years of clinical experience and a deep understanding of the science of human behavior. In addition to my clinical work, I teach psychology at the university level, which allows me to stay closely connected to current research while helping clients translate psychological insight into meaningful, real-world change.

My therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and practical. While gaining insight is important, therapy should be more than simply understanding why you feel the way you do. Together, we work to identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, challenge unhelpful beliefs, develop healthier ways of responding to difficult emotions, and build skills that support lasting change.

My approach is rooted in Rational Emotive and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (RE-CBT/CBT) and informed by other evidence-based approaches depending on each client’s needs. I believe therapy should be tailored to the individual, not the other way around.

I work with adults experiencing anxiety, perfectionism, burnout, relationship concerns, life transitions, self-esteem challenges, and stress related to professional, academic, or personal demands. I also work with couples seeking to improve communication, strengthen connection, and navigate challenges together.

Whether this is your first experience in therapy or you are returning after previous counseling, my goal is to provide a supportive, thoughtful, and nonjudgmental space where you can gain clarity, build resilience, and move toward the life you want to create.

Meaningful change is possible

Therapy is not about becoming someone else. It is about understanding what has been keeping you stuck, developing new ways of relating to your thoughts and emotions, and creating enough space to make choices that feel more aligned with who you are and what matters to you. Meaningful change is possible, and you do not have to navigate it alone.

Services are available online to adults and couples located in Brooklyn, New York City, and throughout New York State.
